Agreement grants some HLGU safety officers additional authority

Hannibal Police and Hannibal LaGrange University have entered into agreement which allows University public safety officers to be granted additional authority as Hannibal Auxiliary Police officers.

Albert Higdon, a University public safety officer was sworn in at last night's Hannibal City Council meeting as the first auxiliary police officer.

The agreement calls for HLGU officers to have the same powers as a Hannibal police officer, but with some restrictions.

The auxiliary police officers must be approved by the Hannibal Police Chief.

Other campus public safety officers are being considered for commission as auxiliary police in the future.
