4-H starts military youth, special interest clubs

Illinois 4-H recently launched two new programs for young people in Illinois.

One focuses on children of Illinois military families.

Military 4-H clubs have been formed at Rock Island Arsenal and Scott Air Force Base.

A 4-H youth club program is currently being formed at Naval Station Great Lakes.

Another new 4-H program is called "SPIN."

It allows young people with special interests or hobbies to meet.

A SPIN club can be started with an adult volunteer leader and five young people with an interest in a particular topic such as sailing or robotics.

The University of Illinois Extension is supporting the 4-H efforts.

UofI Extension youth development educators can help families or communities start a 4-H club in their area.
