2013 Quincy Chamber of Commerce Business Plan Winner

Business in the Quincy area grew even bigger Saturday.

The Quincy Area Chamber of Commerce announced the 2013 winner of its business plan competition. won the $10,000 prize and three credit hours at John Wood Community College.

Michael and Becky Monaghan own the company.

The online company sells hard-to-find replacement glass for wood stoves and fireplaces.

Michael said he heard about this opportunity after last year's winner was announced.

He said the process really helped him focus and define where he wanted the company to go in the future.

"It's an extreme amount of pride number one, but number two, just to know that we are on the right track," Michael Monaghan said. "Sometimes you don't see the forest for the trees and to have outside experts really look at you and your business and say yea this the right path or maybe try this, that does help," he said.

Twelve businesses submitted plans for the competition in June.

From those 12, four finalists were selected and judged on concept, innovation, viability, economic impact and oral presentation.

Monaghan says all of the prize money will be spent locally on marketing and expanding its online presence.
