The Illinois Department of Transportation has decided to postpone plans to close eastbound U.S. 24 across Quincy's Memorial Bridge until sometime on Sunday or later in the week.
This updated information was confirmed by a representative of MoDOT to KHQA on Saturday afternoon.
IDOT cites updated crest predictions for the change in plans.
If the closure does go through, traffic will be diverted onto the Bayview Bridge.
There was no time or date given as to when the bridge might re-open.
IDOT wants to warn motorists that driving into flooded areas can be dangerous, even if the water looks shallow enough to cross.
If your car stalls, do not attempt to push it out of the water and seek higher ground.
