Northeast Missouri roads closed due to flooding
The Missouri Department of Transportation has closed U.S. 61 at Alexandria about 2.4 miles east of U.S. 136 near the Des Moines River Bridge.
U.S. 61 traffic normally going across the Des Moines River Bridge at Alexandria to Keokuk, Iowa are being directed to the Des Moines River Bridge at St. Francisville.
Motorists traveling into Iowa should proceed north on US 27 to Wayland and continue north on US 27 through St. Francisville into Iowa.
Detour signs are in place to advise motorists of these alternate routes.
Alexandria resident and former mayor Bob Davis told KHQA he is hopeful that the Des Moines River will go down the next couple of days, which will enable MoDOT to reopen that stretch of highway in Clark County.
Davis said crews are in the process of sandbagging the railroad crossings at the north and south ends of Alexandria.
Route B from MO 16 in Canton to US 61 in Lewis County is closed.
Crews have installed the flood gates just north of Canton.
Route P east of Pike County Road 201 at the levee to the Mississippi River Access is closed
MoDOT reminds motorists it is dangerous to drive into water-covered roads.
