Flooding closes the Quincy Memorial Bridge
Mon, 07 Jul 2014 13:20:56 GMT —
The Illinois Department of Transportation closed eastbound U.S. 24 across the Memorial Bridge in Quincy Monday morning.
Drivers are rerouted to the Bayview Bridge.
Flooding along the Mississippi River has forced the closure of several roads and bridges in different communities and IDOT crews will continue to closely monitor the situation and close flooded routes as necessary to ensure the safety of area drivers.
Plans to close the bridge over the weekend were postponed and IDOT cited updated crest predictions for the change.
There was no time or date given as to when the bridge might re-open.
Officials warn that driving into flooded areas can be dangerous, so make sure you:
- Do not drive through flooded areas.
- If a road covered by water seems shallow enough to cross, do not make an attempt to do so.
- If your car stalls, do not attempt to push it out; seek higher ground.
