Quincy Fire Department Chief Joe Henning has worked with Quincy Fire Department for more than two decades. Plus, he has spent more than 35 years as a volunteer. Henning was honored as KHQA's recent Hometown Heroes recipient Tuesday.

Fire Chief Joe Henning is the most recent recipient of the KHQA Hometown Heroes Award.

Henning has worked with the Quincy Fire Department for more than two decades. Plus, he has spent more than 35 years as a volunteer.

Henning said his childhood Explorer Post leader taught him the value of being a civic servant.

"Well I think most people when you look back on your childhood and look back on your formative years, somebody made a difference and helped guide you down whatever path you take," Henning explained. "In my opinion Scouting was a big part of that and I feel an obligation to give back to the community so that hopefully we can help the young people of today make those determinations and make life choices that are going to be positive so that they in turn can pass it on. It's all about paying it forward."

KHQA would like to thank our sponsors Hilbing Autobody and Peters Heating and Air Conditioning for making this series possible.
