A Mt. Sterling woman is dead after a fire destroyed her home early this morning.
Fire Chief Brian Gallaher is not calling this a suspicious fire at this time...but we did confirm the State Arson Squad and the State Police Crime unit are investigating.
We've also learned the name of the victim...34 year old Kathy L. Blentlinger. Many of the people we spoke to know her as Kathy Grover. She was a life-long resident of Mt. Sterling.
A passerby saw the flames here at 202 East South Street around 3:30 Friday morning. Firefighters told me the house fire was so hot...it began to melt the siding off of neighboring homes.
Now the investigation is underway...with officials trying to find the cause. Here's what they do know. The fire began on the back side of the home. Blentlinger was found inside her bedroom. She lived here with her 8 year old son...but he wasn't at home when the fire broke out.
Mt. Sterling Fire Chief Brian Gallaher says this loss is hard on the community.
Gallaher said, "In a small community it really hits home and as in the past the community will come together to help family members with the situation."
Friends and family describe Kathy as a outgoing people person. She loved spending time with her friends and family...especially her son. She had been pursuing her dream of a career as a medical assistant.
An autopsy is planned to determine the cause of Blentlinger's death.
