Some Hannibal landmarks are being highlighted by a nationally known map company.
In an effort to help folks find unique one tank trips in the MidWest, Rand McNally put out a travel book...complete with maps and descriptions of must-see attractions that may not be as well known.
It includes a number of Hannibal businesses. KHQA's Melissa Shriver talked with the owners of those businesses to find out what put them on the map.....literally.
Stop in at Java Jive in downtown Hannibal and you'll get more than a cup of joe.
You'll be drinking in the atmosphere that got the coffee house into the Rand McNally Midwest Getaway Guide.
Editors at the popular map company chose Java Jive and a couple other locations as the cream on top compared to tourist attractions in other areas.
Katy Welch, Manager of Java Jive said, "We're kind of a hot spot on Main street. It's the place where people relax, have a drink and take a break."
In all about 12 locations were chosen to highlight the Midwestern Travel Guide. Another location featured was Reagan's Queen Anne Bed and Breakfast.
Two other businesses featured in the guide were Fresh Ayers and Ayers Pottery. Steve Ayers owns both shops along with Java Jive. After 30 years in the pottery business, he isn't surprised by the designation.
Steve Ayers said, "They're all neat businesses to come to, I think people walk into the coffee shop and it's what people think a coffee shop should be in their minds. We're not so busy that we can't talk to our customers, get to know them and that's why I think it's a must see place."
Other attractions featured in these pages include the Mark Twain River Boat and the Mark Twain Dinette.
But just being featured is like the cream on the top for every business here in Hannibal. Guides can be purchased now in most major stores.
