      FEMA approves Pacific flood buyout

FEMA has approved funding for a residential flood buyout project for the St. Louis suburb of Pacific.

Pacific officials say the project is expected to cost $2.4 million. Once the funds are released, Pacific says it will begin appraising and buying 27 dwellings that flooded earlier this year and four other times since 1979.

Mayor Herbert Adams says Pacific will turn the property into a park. Flooding from the Meramec River damaged more than 200 homes and businesses in the community on March 21st. Some homes that are not being bought out will be elevated to try and prevent future flood damage.
